Moving forward…

2014 is rapidly coming to apositive thoughtsn end. For many, it was a difficult year. Every family we serve is dealing with loss in some fashion. So with Christmas and 2015 on the horizon, we thought this would be a great time to share some suggestions on putting a positive spin on what lies ahead.

1. Start small. A simple thought or gesture is a great way to begin. It’s said that a “journey of 1,000 miles begins with a single step.” That is so true. Whether it’s a thought, a phone call or even a visit. Take that first step.

2. See the glass half full, rather than half empty. Loss is tough. Change is hard. But when you first look for the positive, rather than the negative, things get easier.

3. Surround yourself with positive people. If this means reaching out to new people–through social, church, work or other organizations–give it a try. You have nothing to lose.

4. Offer to do something WITH or FOR someone you typically don’t interact with. Maybe it’s running an errand for an elderly neighbor or family member. They’ll feel good–you’ll feel BETTER.

5. Read, listen to or watch positive, life-affirming stories. There is a lot of good being done in the world–particularly at this time of year. Celebrate it.

Remember, “Yesterday’s the past, tomorrow’s the future, but today is a gift. That’s why it’s called the present.”

Let’s keep looking forward…
